The Biden team has spoken harshly about China, but so far Beijing is more shameless than ever on all fronts, attacking Hong Kong and Taiwan, while claiming to suspect that the United States gave birth to the deadly coronavirus.
“Last night, I was on the phone for two consecutive hours with Xi Jinping,” President Biden revealed on Thursday, calling his conversation with the Chinese president “a good conversation.” (Still awaiting a first call to US ally Israel.)
The White House says Biden has rejected a number of complaints with Xi: “his fundamental concerns about Beijing’s coercive and unfair economic practices, Hong Kong repression, Xinjiang atrocities and increasingly assertive actions in the region, including of Taiwan ”. They also “exchanged views on combating the COVID-19 pandemic and the common challenges of global health security, climate change and preventing the proliferation of weapons.”
Hours before the call, Biden announced a Pentagon task force to recommend answers to the Chinese army’s “growing challenges.”
Secretary of State Antony Blinken and National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan have reportedly told lawmakers that China is “the biggest long-term national security threat to the United States.” Are you thinking?
Beijing will do or say anything in its quest for power and influence. Last week, as a World Health Organization team announced what it had learned about COVID-19 in Wuhan (very little because Beijing had destroyed the evidence long before), Chinese Foreign Ministry Wang Wenbin took the opportunity to to again accuse Washington of unleashing the deadly virus, calling on America to be “open and transparent” and “invite WHO experts in the United States to conduct research and inspections on tracing the origin.”
This follows last month’s request from his colleague Hua Chunying that Uncle Sam “open the Fort Detrick biological laboratory, provide more transparency to issues such as his biological laboratories for over 200 years” and “invite WHO experts” to the country.
The communist regime showed its own contempt for the opening last week, revoking bail for Hong Kong pro-democracy newspaper editor Jimmy Lai, who faces false accusations of “foreign collusion” under the new national security law, which would could bring a life sentence. Meanwhile, Hong Kong puppet leader Carrie Lam has confirmed that the continent is now rejecting dual sovereignty, so many residents with British overseas passports cannot obtain British consular assistance.
Beijing is still attacking Taiwan. Shortly after Biden’s inauguration, he spent a weekend sending dozens of fighters and bombers into Taiwanese airspace and kept the breaches almost daily. A Reuters analysis of satellite imagery also exposed “the relentless dredging of sand, frequently invading Taiwan-controlled waters,” in an attempt to distract the island nation’s defenses and destroy the livelihoods of a number of islanders controlled by Taipei.
The communists did not stop torturing civilians either. Biden’s State Department said “atrocities”, such as the systematic rape of Uighur women in concentration camps in Beijing, “shocked the conscience and must have serious consequences”.
Biden’s team speaks correctly. We look forward to seeing that it actually has “serious consequences” for all of Xi’s horrors.
