SCJ President appoints investigating judge for investigation process against Plenary Chamber of Accounts

Magistrate Luis Henry Molina Peña, President of the Supreme Court of Justice (SCJ), appointed the magistrate on Friday night María Garabito Ramírez, Member of the Second Chamber of the High Court, thus accepting the request made by the Deputy Chief Prosecutor of the Special Prosecutor for the Prosecution of Administrative Corruption (PEPCA), Wilson Camacho, who made such a request at 16:33 on the same day.

The purpose of appointing Garabito Ramírez is to resolve all issues and incidents that may arise from the investigation initiated by PEPCA against members of the Plenary of the Chamber of Accounts of the Dominican Republic (CCRD).

By virtue of the provisions of article 17 of Law no. 25-91, of October 15, 1991, the Staff of the Supreme Court of Justice, amended by Law no. 156 of 1997, it is the competence of the President of the Supreme Court of Justice to send the files according to their nature to the appropriate bodies for their resolution.

PEPCA has filed a lawsuit with the General Secretariat of the Supreme Court of Justice, which establishes that the respondents have the privilege of jurisdiction protected by Article 154, number 1, of the Constitution of the Dominican Republic and Articles 378 and 379 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.

CCRD members are Hugo Francisco Álvarez Pérez, Pedro Antonio Ortiz Hernández, Carlos Noés Tejada Díaz, Margarita Melenciano Corporán and Félix Álvarez Rivera, who have the privilege of jurisdiction.
