A Los Angeles judge on Thursday joined Britney Spears’ legal team in giving a third-party equal power to her father in managing the 39-year-old pop star’s finances. Her father, Jamie Spears, had opposed a previous ruling, which he claimed had reduced control over the property.
Judge Brenda Penny ordered her father and the financial company Bessemer Trust to work together on a budget and an investment plan for the singer. In November, the judge appointed the company to the role, but denied an attempt by attorneys Britney to remove Jamie from conservative fully.
Jamie received the Conservative in 2008 after Britney struggled with mental health issues.
On Thursday, court-appointed lawyer Britney echoed her earlier statements, saying her client wants her father removed from the conservatory. “It’s no secret that my client doesn’t want her father to be her conservative, but we recognize that removal is a separate issue,” said attorney Sam Ingham.
Jamie’s prosecutor Vivian Thoreen claimed that the conservative between Jaime and the Bessemer Trust was “unclear and ambiguous in design”. But Ingham disputed this, saying the roles shared were not ambiguous and meant to be equal.
Last year, Ingram said Britney was “strongly opposed” to her father’s position as sole custodian of his estate and asked the court to limit his control. While the judge did not remove her, she named the Bessemer Trust as a co-conservator.

Jamie’s legal team claimed his guidance worked. In his order, his lawyers said, Britney’s property went from having debts to a valuation of over $ 60 million.
Late Thursday, Jamie’s lawyers said he welcomed working with the co-conservator. “Today’s Probation Court rulings show the court’s confidence in our client Jamie Spears and the Bessemer Trust to jointly manage the conservatory of Ms Spears’ property,” her legal team said in a statement. “My client is looking forward to working with Bessemer to pursue an investment strategy in her daughter’s best interests.”
The news comes as a New York Times documentary renewed attention at Spears’ legal battle with her father. The special follows the rise of the famous pop star, the breakdown of the public and the latest comeback.
Both sides are expected to return to court on March 17.
