In the draft resolution, Suarez also proposed allowing city residents to pay property taxes or city taxes in cryptocurrencies, according to Bloomberg.

Bitcoin has proven to be a volatile cryptocurrency that can grow or lose more than half its value in just one month. However, Suarez said he supports Bitcoin and even intends for his city manager to consider investing a “limited amount of government funds” in it, Bloomberg reported.

It looks like the resolution will be presented to the city’s governing commission for approval on Thursday.

Surarez has some support for Vice President Ken Russell’s commission, saying he “certainly does not oppose” the inclusion of Bitcoin in the city’s business, although he said the city government needs to know what it is involved in, Bloomberg reported.

“What needs to be done is due diligence, not just from a legal perspective,” Russell said. “It’s not just a coin, it’s a concept.”
