Miami Marlins he adds Adam Duvall to their outfield, and that pickup could take his veteran teammate Garrett Cooper out of the Miami Beach fishing boat. Cooper’s status with the team is questionable now that Duvall is coming on board, according to famed Miami Herald reporter Barry Jackson. Los Angeles Dodgers have already asked about Cooper, reported Craig Mish, the popular SportsGrid reporter.
It is not known if Miami would seriously consider Cooper trading, but it could be considered redundant because of Duvall’s signing. Both players are right-handed hitters able to line up in the corner field, and while Cooper was largely the first mayor, the Marlins have another right there in Jesus Aguilar.
If there is no universal DH in 2021, Cooper could get elsewhere. Cooper, who turned 30 on Christmas Day, has been a productive and accessible part of the Marlins offense for the past two years.
He was certainly among his best players last season, dropping .283 / .353 / .500 (134 wRC +) with six rounds from home in 133 appearances on the set. His track record of mixing a respectable offense (114 wRC + in his career) with defensive versatility, not to mention the team’s three years of control and a $ 1.9 million salary in 2021, would make him a quality commercial chip for Miami.
It is known that the Dodgers place great value on players who can line up in different positions, which is why Cooper seems to match the reigning World Series champions. Maybe he could see time at first base with players like Max Muncy, Cody Bellinger and Edwin Rios and join Bellinger, Mookie Betts, Chris Taylor and AJ Pollock as capable veterans on the field in the Dodgers roster.
