ABC13 spoke with Anthony Williams, who gave positive results and is now recovering.
“I just couldn’t breathe. I felt horrible to the point where I didn’t know that if I closed my eyes that I would wake up the next day,” Williams said. “A combination of fear and just trying to be proactive. Something said, ‘Get up and go to the emergency room.’
Williams is a pastor, teacher and veteran who survived an injury during an explosion and was shot on the battlefield in Iraq.
“Honestly, for me, COVID-19 and its variants are worse than [the injuries], because it’s a very difficult situation not to know if your next breath is your last breath, “Williams said.
He said he has since fully recovered.
“What people need to focus on is vaccination and protection against all the strains that exist now,” said Robert Atmer, a professor at Baylor College of Medicine. “And we might end up giving impulses. We don’t know yet. I think a lot of people predict that it will be needed.”
In Harris County, the health department found only the British version of the virus.
However, this does not mean that others are not in the area. The health department says residents must keep their guards.

The Houston Department of Health analyzed wastewater in various parts of the city to detect COVID-19 in the past year.
Just last week, the UK version was found at very low levels in several wastewater samples. The Brazilian variant was not detected at all in our area.
Dr. David Persse said that no one has done this before and it is a new science that he is still trying to reveal.
“It simply came to our notice then. We hope to get a better idea of how much can spread in the community. Again, it won’t be extremely specific, but it’s quite sensitive, so we’ll get an early warning, “he said.” While we may not be able to identify anything, at least we’ll know what’s likely to happen. “
