An impeachment attorney for former President Donald Trump destroyed video evidence presented by Democrats on Tuesday that he claimed was likely made by a major movie company to mislead the American public.
“It’s really easy to get up and show split and fabricated movies,” David Schoen told Sean Hannity to Fox News Tuesday night.
Schoen was referring to a lengthy video montage shown by the house’s chief manager, Jamie Raskin, on the first day of the Senate’s arguments in Trump’s second impeachment trial.
The 14-minute production brought together excerpts from Trump’s speech and images of his supporters, as well as footage of the deadly riot.
“Literally, the Democrats, the House managers, probably hired a big movie company and a big law firm to put this thing together,” Schoen told Hannity.
Trump’s January 6 speech is central to the Democrats’ impeachment case, as they will claim it incited his supporters to march to the Capitol in an attempt to reverse the 2020 presidential election.
Schoen said the video was intended to mislead the American people by making it look like the two events were happening simultaneously.
Why do we want to cheat the American people? And listen, they have great entertainment value. People are stuck with a film that is so professionally made, ”he said.
Without mentioning him, Hannity also questioned Schoen about fellow Trump attorney Bruce Castor’s “ pre-existing ” and “ somewhat meandering ” opening remarks.
Schoen defended Castor, saying he had no intention of presenting today.
“I’m sure they will be well prepared in the future and do a great job on the case,” Schoen said of Castor and his law firm.
