The Minister of Public Health, Plutarco Arias, reported on Tuesday that some commercial houses failed, so he did not specify the date when the country will receive vaccines against COVID-19.
“Let me reserve this situation for myself. There are still a few … some commercial houses have failed,”.
He added that now it is important that positivity has decreased in the country and that the government will soon vaccinate.
Arias was approached by journalists in the Ambassadors’ Hall of the National Palace, where he attended the ceremony to receive the President, Luis Abinader, to the winners of the Caribbean Series.
Vaccines awaiting the Dominican Republic
Through AstraZeneca, Pfizer and the Global Access Fund for COVID-19 Vaccines (COVAX), the country expects 20 million vaccines. Ten from AstraZeneca, eight from Pitzer and the remaining amount will be provided by COVAX.
By the end of last month, the Dominican Republic was expecting 25,000 initial vaccines from the Pfizer lab, which will be used for medical staff but will never arrive. So far, deliveries are still delayed.
As for AstraZeneca, on March 21 the country will receive a first delivery of 10 million vaccines.
As for the date and the remaining amount that COVAX will contribute, it is not yet known when they will arrive in the country.
