Derrick Rose arrived in Miami early Monday night and said he wanted a new crack to make the Knicks great again, saying he was “grateful.”
A Twitter Knicks account showed him how to get to Miami airport and said on video:
“I did not think it would happen at first. There is a lot going on in trading. I feel grateful, anxious, but at the same time I know what to do when I come here. It’s about helping young people, playing as hard as they can and, one, thanking Thibs [Knicks coach Tom Thibodeau]. “
Rose will wear number 4 – Dennis Smith Jr.’s number – because the Knicks already have 25 occupied by Reggie Bullock. Without practice, it doesn’t look likely that Rose will make his second Knicks debut on Tuesday against the Heat, especially since he didn’t play at all this month.
Once the deal with Detroit became official earlier in the day, Rose, who played for the Knicks for a season in 2016-17 and wanted to sign again, wrote about her enthusiasm on Instagram, relaying a missed opportunity in the first his Knicks internship.
“Other hoopers always told me that if I ever had a chance to play in MECCA, I would go for it,” Rose wrote. “I have a second chance. … I have to make him count. But I’m built for that. What does Pooh write back ???? It’s just in my blood. ”
The Knicks did not sign Rose again after that season, after Steve Mills took over as president for Phil Jackson, who was fired. According to her 2019 autobiography, Roz injured Rose.
Rose, 32, explained in her book her decision to leave the Knicks after a mid-season game and go home to Chicago without her permission, confirming that she was thinking of retiring at the time.
“When I left Knicks that day in January 2017, that’s what it was about. I just needed to go home, “Rose wrote. “I went to bed with my mother. … I decided I was done playing.
