Musician Ringo Martínez wins the fight against Covid

Alberto “Ringo” Martínez won the fight against Covid. The veteran Dominican musician was discharged after a progressive improvement after more than a month in a Dominican hospital.

“You have to follow outpatient care and rehabilitation. You will not be able to travel until you are completely downloaded. Thank you all and keep on praying to recover and return to join his family, ”the representatives said in a statement.

According to a press release, his condition is stable and “is improving progressively, but carefully.”

Ringo Martínez, who is part of the merengue duo La Patrulla 15 with Jossie Esteban, was treated in Puerto Plata.

+ A journey of sadness

The musician, who has lived in Puerto Rico for decades, traveled to the Dominican Republic over Christmas to visit his mother, Josefina Peña, whom he had not seen for 13 months due to the pandemic. He is an only child.

Doña FIFA, as everyone affectionately called her, needed adequate and urgent care because of her advanced age of 95 years.

During the trial, her mother suffered a fall and a chain of events unfolded that culminated in her diagnosis of Covid-19 and her subsequent death on January 7.

In those days, Ringo was also diagnosed with coronavirus.

Martínez, pianist and singer Jossie Esteban formed a meringue union that lasted more than 20 years, turning over 100 meringues into hits.

Patrol 15 has recorded 25 music albums and over 300 songs.

Ringo, 66, was born in Montecristi, but grew up in San Francisco de Macorís, where he began his musical career until he emigrated in February 1976 to Puerto Rico, the island where he developed his career.
