The presidents of the two legislative chambers rejected the violent attitude that led to the deterioration of the structure of the National Congress of protesters demanding the approval of the bill aimed at delivering 30% of pension funds.
Both Eduardo Estrella, the president of the Senate of the Republic, and Alfredo Pacheco, the president of the Chamber of Deputies, gave their opinion on the protest that took place last Thursday.
Regarding what happened, Pacheco indicated that the Disciplinary Council of the Chamber of Deputies has taken control of the situation and that he expects to receive a communication from the Senate with more details.
“The President of the Senate told me that they will send a communication to the Chamber of Deputies. When I send it, we will send it to the Disciplinary Council, which will have to demonstrate and make recommendations in the plenary session of the Chamber of Deputies,” Pacheco explained.
Similarly, he anticipated that from that body of legislation “this type of event will not go unpunished”, beyond the time taken to make a decision on the violent events that took place, led by MP Pedro Botello .
In his turn, the president of the Senate declared that he respects the protests, but always in a “peaceful” way.
“I think that incidentally what is a place like the National Congress, like the Senate of the Republic, leaves much to be desired, but not only for senators, but also for employees, visitors. I think it is a place that must be respected. Anyone can express their opinions, they do not agree, but always within the order and respect for public peace and institutions, “said Estrella.
Regarding the report on the events that took place, he said that the legal advice will send the details to the Chamber of Deputies, including the videos made at that time.
In another order, the president of the Senate said that the bill aimed at delivering 30% of pension funds is still known to the social security commission and that he has not yet submitted a report.
