A new rumor has caused the possible return of a classic series on Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S. Unlike PlayStation and Nintendo, Xbox does not have an abundance of incredible IPs. It has Hate, Gears of War, Power, Fable, and a few other heavy hitters, but not enough to keep up with its biggest competitors. Once you purchase ZeniMax Media, Bethesda’s parent company, switch and add Fall out, Ages Scrolls, DOOM, Wolfensteinand, more than its IP arsenal, it may even work, but until then and for its entire existence in the gaming space, Xbox has an IP problem.
That being said, there is IP on which it has stood, which has value. Last year, it announced revivals for two of the biggest examples of this: Fable and Perfect Darkness. However, there are still more IPs from which Microsoft could get something. E.g, Killer Instinct. You Killer Instinct to be ever as big as street fighter or The deadly beating? Probably not, but it’s a high-potential IP that Microsoft tried to revive on Xbox One, but after this failed attempt, it didn’t reach the series. However, this does not seem to be due to a lack of desire.
During a recent Xbox Two episode, Xbox member Jez Corden revealed that he heard that Microsoft wants to do something new. Killer Instinct, but did not find the right partner to develop the game.
“I know Microsoft wants to do that Killer Instinct,“Corden said.” It’s not like he didn’t want a sequel. They just didn’t have anyone to do them, at least that’s what I was told. “
As mentioned earlier, Microsoft tried to bring Killer Instinct back from the grave in 2013 on Xbox One. However, the renaissance not only did not ignite the world, but its developer, Double Helix Games, was acquired by Amazon not long after. When this happened, Iron Galaxy Studios came into the picture to develop the second and third seasons of the game. That being said, while Iron Galaxy Studios is an excellent studio, it’s not really an industry leader or a premiere team, which could explain why they weren’t selected for a sequel.
That said, for now, take everything here with a grain of salt. Although the source in question has proven reliable in the past, nothing here is official and not 100% clear if it is up to date.
