Two US cruise lines will require proof of coronavirus vaccination before passengers are allowed to board starting in July.
Requirements set by the American Queen Steamboat Company and Victory Cruise Lines, they are part of the “SafeCruise” guidelines that companies have set up to keep passengers and staff safe during their travels.
“Vaccination requirements for both our guests and crew are the most prudent next step in making sure we have the safest cruise experience possible,” said John Wagoner, CEO and founder of Queen Steamboat Company. Condé Nast Traveler.
Both guidelines stipulate that passengers and crew must be vaccinated against coronavirus from 1 July to travel.
The industry has been successful in the wake of the pandemic, as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) docked cruises from March to October last year.
Both companies will resume cruises starting in April, introducing precautions against coronavirus, such as masks and temperature checks, although the vaccine’s mandate will begin in July.
Companies said they are not worried about this requirement because many of their customers are older and are eligible for the vaccine. The crew is also eligible for the vaccine under the CDC’s Phase 1c priority system because they are employees of a transportation company, both companies said, Condé Nast Traveler reported.
The United States has focused on vaccinating two of its most vulnerable populations – the elderly and health care workers – since the Moderna and Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines were approved.
The Biden administration has promised to administer 100 million photos in the first 100 days of President Biden’s term, while stepping up efforts to distribute the vaccine.
