I got some information about Nintendo’s recent financial results this week. After publishing the nine-month figures for 2020 on Monday, a question and answer session was launched between Nintendo President Shuntaro Furakawa and numerous investors.
It has brought several points of interest – namely, when we can expect to see Nintendo’s upcoming games – and an investor believes that with nearly 80 million units sold so far, the Switch could eventually surpass sales. throughout the Nintendo Wii to over 101 million.
Asked what Nintendo will do to take Switch sales further, Furukawa begins by quoting Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ success in attracting people’s interest, along with nostalgia for Super Mario Bros 35th Anniversary.
Going further, he also detailed the application for multiple consoles in a single family, confirming:
Our research found that approximately 20% of Nintendo Switch family sales between October and December 2020 in major regions were due to demand for multiple systems in the same family. We will aim to further increase sales volume, responding rigorously to this type of demand and for several systems.
While the stock has improved recently, Switch consoles have been notoriously hard to find in the early days of the Covid-19 pandemic, a situation that has led to rising prices by some retailers. It’s nice to see then that Nintendo is not only aware of the demand, but will “rigorously” try to meet it.
Does your home have multiple Switch consoles? Do you think it can surpass the Nintendo Wii? Tell us in the comments.
