Michelle Williams Cast as Peggy Lee in Todd Haynes’s Biopic

Michelle Williams has been cast as Peggy Lee in a future biography, accordingly The Hollywood Reporter. Todd Haynes, who previously worked with Williams at Bob Dylan-centric I am not here, is set to lead the project.

The Hollywood Reporter notes that Fever is based on a scenario Nora Ephron, but that the project was abandoned after her death in 2012. Peggy Lee established herself as a high band singer in the early 1940s, writing nearly 300 songs and maintaining a prolific career as a composer and animator. In 2017, Deadline reported that Williams was cast as Janis Joplin in a biopic approved by the late singer’s estate. The film was allowed to use two dozen songs by Joplin, but no other details about the release were announced.
