The Dominican Republic will host the last Olympic qualifying tournament for the Olympic Games in Tokyo 2020 (Japan), corresponding to the American continent.
The competition will bring together elite athletes from the 29 nations that make up the Pan American Weightlifting Federation.
The event will take place in both branches, between April 17-25, through a “bubble” that will take place at the Emotions Hodelpa Hotel in Juan Dolio, San Pedro de Macorís.
Details of the continental event were provided by the President of the Dominican Weightlifting Federation, William Ozuna, who thanked in advance the collaboration of the Minister of Sports, Francisco Camacho, as well as the highest authorities of the Dominican Olympic Committee and Creando Sueños Olímpicos (CRESO), chaired. respectively by Antonio Acosta and Felipe Vicini.
He said that many national federations in America have begun to notify and formalize their registrations for the event that could bring together 600 athletes who will seek to crystallize the Olympic dream.
“We expect the participation of the 29 continental federations associated with the Pan American Federation, including those in the Caribbean islands,” the leader said.
Ozuna said that the Federation of Weights is immersed in the assembly of the contest. He added that in the coming days the members of the Organizing Committee will present.

In another order, Ozuna indicated that the Dominican preselection is also training in a “bubble” in Parque del Este, which augurs a decent participation of Pesqueyanos weightlifters.
For months, our boys have been concentrated in a “bubble”, in which all possible care was provided and the health protocol imposed by the authorities was respected. So far we have not had any positive cases due to the care we have had in all aspects “, he said.
He specified that the coaches’ body works on the physical training of the athletes, in order to then enter the next stage, which will be the elevators on the platform.
Weightlifters work under the reins of Dominicans Héctor Domínguez, Moreno Martínez and Venezuelan Luis Silva.
William Ozuna indicated that, as the host country, the Dominican Republic will compete with its full teams in both arms.
