During the presentation of the second phase of the “Ciudad Altos de la Rivera” housing project, the president assured that they are determined to promote all necessary actions and steps “to allow this right to materialize for all Dominicans.”
The project, run by the Dominican Confederation of Micro, Small and Medium Construction Companies Inc. (Copymecon), has an investment of $ 2,362 million RD, which will generate direct, indirect and beneficiary jobs, a positive impact for more than 33 thousands of people and nearly a hundred companies, Abinader said.
He assured that “the progress of the Dominican Republic towards the future means ensuring that the families of our country have the real opportunity to access the most important element of the entire heritage: their home, their home.”
He stressed that the integration of SMEs in construction in the development of low-cost housing under the protection of Law 189-11, on the development of the mortgage market and trust in the Dominican Republic, “must already be a constant in our activities.”
He said that this sector has been kept on the sidelines for too long “, but now they have the support of the government to work together and achieve the development of the sector.
Copymecon President Eliseo Cristopher stressed that this is a project of the Copymecon Trust program started in 2016 and envisages the integration of construction mipimes in the development of low-cost housing, under the protection of Law 189-11, on the development of the mortgage and trust market from the Dominican Republic.
The program has a national scope and aims to leave over 1,200 SMEs, including young people and women, in the short and medium term, formalized, competitive and with the ability to generate their own construction projects in the public and private spheres. .
“It should be noted that in the past, housing projects were considered in the framework of public-private partnerships (PPPs), projects designed with a high degree of social sensitivity, but no participation was given to construction companies and thousands of houses they were built by about twenty companies, turning these projects into unfair competition for our expanding and cooperative sector, ”he said.
“During several governments we have made great efforts to include construction mimes in the nation’s development plans, even complying with the requirements of Laws 488-08 and 340-06, which is a predominantly strong sector to create mobility. economic development in all parts of the country, ”he said.
The project, which involves 84 SMEs, is located at kilometer 22 of the Las Américas highway and will have 1,168 one- to three-bedroom apartments that will be delivered in May this year.
