A pro-Trump attorney who brought forward conspiracy theories about the 2020 presidential election, including allegations of voter fraud, is reportedly under investigation for illegal voting. WGCL-TV, affiliated with CBS Atlanta, quotes a high-level source in the Georgia Secretary of State’s office as saying the office is investigating whether Wood voted “out of state” – in Georgia, although he was in fact a resident of South Carolina at the time of the November election.
It is unclear whether Wood was eligible to vote in Georgia or whether he was considered a resident when he casts his vote.
In a statement to CBS News, Wood said he “has been a resident of the state of Georgia since 1955. I changed my residency to South Carolina yesterday. [February 1, 2021]. “
He added, “This is pure intimidation by the Secretary of State of Georgia, as I have revealed credible evidence of election fraud by Brad Raffensperger” – the Secretary of State of Georgia.
Wood told NPR that he “was domiciled in Atlanta in October 2020 and was a resident of Georgia at the time. … I own properties in Georgia and South Carolina.”
The prominent pro-Trump figure sued Raffensperger in one of a series of unsuccessful lawsuits for alleged electoral fraud in the 2020 election. Wood, along with Sidney Powell, filed suit in battlefield states to try to reverse the election results.
Wood spoke at far-right rallies about his claims, including a “Stop The Steal” event on December 2 in Georgia.
A “Stop The Steal” meeting in Washington, DC preceded January 6 attack on the Capitol.
The 68-year-old was permanently suspended by Twitter for instigating conspiracy theories and promoting the Capitol attack. He was temporarily banned and then banned for saying he would use a second account to get around the suspension, Buzzfeed News said.
Recently, the State Bar of Georgia opened an investigation into Wood’s jurisdiction. According to The Associated Press, the investigation “falls under the bar rule dealing with mental disability or substance abuse.”
