Switch’s launch schedule may look a little bright at the moment, but it would be fair to assume that there are ongoing projects that have not yet been announced – and we probably had confirmation of this assumption from Christophe Gandon, director general of Games at Virtuos, the studio responsible for the amazing Switch ports of third parties such as Dark Souls, Starlink and LA Noire, among others.
Speaking about the news that the Switch has surpassed the 3DS to claim the honor of being Nintendo’s fifth best-selling console of all time, Gandon said:
2021 began with the continued growth of the Nintendo Switch, as it now surpasses 3DS sales for life. There are many reasons for its success, including fantastic games for the first parties and a clever design that eventually crosses the handheld / console division. However, what makes the Switch stand out is the strong continuous support of third parties. Investing in the Switch ecosystem no longer means losing some of the biggest IPs in the world, with franchises like Bioshock and XCOM sitting in the same content library as Mario and Zelda. This can be credited to Nintendo’s new approach to working with third parties and their desire to make the Switch a welcoming home for developers of all shapes and sizes. We’ve managed to make good use of Nintendo’s toolkits to make games look and work great on their hardware, and we’re excited about new projects on the horizon for this summer and beyond. There are many more in the Switch family.
Gandon clearly suggests that Virtuos has beasts on fire for 2021, but using the phrase “Switch family” is also interesting – it could suggest that we’ll get new Switch hardware in the near future, as has been rumored. for some time (despite Nintendo’s efforts to ignore them)? Or maybe it just means Switch and Switch Lite?
