Headline Pepca says “it has not been forgotten”, Argenis Contreras case

The head of the special prosecutor for the prosecution of administrative corruption (Pepca), Wilson Camacho, said they have not forgotten the case accusing Argenis Contreras of involvement in the murder of lawyer and university professor Yuniol Ramírez Ferreras.

Camacho explained that in that case they work “slowly but without pause” and with all those who have anything to do with the issue of corruption.

When asked about the difficulty for which the United States has not yet extradited Contreras, Pepca’s chief asked to respect the decisions of the other authorities.

“We must respect the decisions that depend on the United States authorities. We have stated here and in all scenarios that we have a great interest in the accused Argenis Contreras coming to the Dominican Republic to be accountable for his actions, ”he said.

Likewise, he said the issue should be resolved at a coordination table between the United States and Dominican Republic authorities.

On January 29 The fourth national district investigating judge announced the resumption of proceedings on the request to open a trial against those involved in the murder of Yuniol Ramírez, whose lead author, Argenis Contreras, is expected to be brought to the country in the coming days.

The suspect in Ramírez Ferreras’s death was arrested in the United States on April 21, 2018, by means of an arrest warrant obtained against him by the Dominican Republic’s prosecutor and expelled after an appeal court rejected an appeal.

Also involved in Ramírez’s murder are Argenis Contreras’ wife, Heydi Carolina Peña; José Mercado Blanco (El Grande), Víctor Elisander Ravelo Campos (“El Herrero”) and Jorge Luis Abreu Fabián (“DJ and El Taxista”), accused of hiding Argenis Contreras and trying to destroy evidence in the case. In connection with the case, the former director of the Metropolitan Office of Bus Services (OMSA) was charged., Manuel Rivas and Colonel Faustino Díaz.
