PHOENIX – The Phoenix Police Department is investigating a shooting at a business near 32nd Street and the Indian School.
Just after 9:00 a.m. Saturday, police responded to a mall for reports of a shooting.
Officers who responded on the spot say ABC15 shots were fired outside the Ace Hardware store in Howard during an attempted robbery.
Phoenix police said an employee was trying to stop a thief as they both fled the store.
A man, who was sitting outside, witnessed the pursuit and unloaded a weapon. Police said he fired at the theft, but missed and hit the employee.
The victim was taken to hospital for treatment. He is said to have serious injuries, but not life-threatening.
The thief left the scene before the police arrived. It is unclear if he was identified.
The person who fired fired remained on the spot and is cooperating with the police. It is unclear whether any charges will be filed.
The investigation remains ongoing.
