Colombian artist Maluma celebrated his birthday in Miami on Thursday with the release of a surprise mini-disc entitled “# 7DJ (7 Days in Jamaica)”, accompanied by a short film filmed on the Caribbean island.
Maluma presented his production at a party attended by Efe, in which he explained how the idea of his artistic proposal with ecological touches was born, which includes, in addition to music and short film, a fine art exhibition for charity purposes.
“I am 27 years old now. I’m cucho (old), but I’m still very happy, “Maluma said when she said she was throwing her” fifth child. “
“It’s a project I’ve been working on for a long time. This is an album that was going to appear before “Papi Juancho” (his previous album), but the covid came and I couldn’t make the videos; that’s why we decided to postpone it “, he explained.
The idea for “# 7DJ” was born during a week’s trip to Jamaica that Maluma made with a group of friends more than a year ago, although the artist used the networks for a few days to create unrest. among his followers, posting photos with him. the name of the disc in a woman’s womb. Many have come to believe that it is a task.
“The seven days in Jamaica happened at a time when I needed to escape and unwind, because I had seven years working on my career without stopping and I was wondering if I should continue to make music.” revealed the artist during a party in which he combined the exit to market your project and 27 years.
“I thought a lot and I came back transformed, completely inspired and convinced that music is not just what I do, but part of me, the way I live and the way I interpret my experiences,” he added.
The trip inspired him to compose during the pandemic and the result was seven songs with a reggae base, with reggaeton accents.
The album “# 7DJ” has two collaborations with great reggae: Ziggy Marley and Charly Black. The music was recorded live by Jamaican artists who played trumpets, saxophone, bass and percussion.
The production was responsible for Édgar “Edge” Barrera, Johany Alejandro Corral “Nyal” and The Rude Boyz.
With titles such as “Tónika”, “Love”, “Chocolate”, “Agua de Jamaica”, “Desayun-Arte”, “Bubble” and “Peligrosa”, the themes are also the soundtrack of the short film, which consists of the story of a man (Maluma) who arrives on the island, falls in love, lives a short relationship and suffers from love.
The innovative audiovisual proposal, which is on Maluma’s YouTube channel, was produced by the 36-degree producer, based in the Colombian city of Medellín. The short film, mostly filmed in Jamaica, can be separated as music videos that accompany each song.
Sources from the production company told Efe that all the videos were filmed on the Caribbean island according to strict health protocols to avoid the covid-19 contagion. One part, the part of the song “Tónika”, the collaboration with Ziggy Marley, was made in Los Angeles.
The third element of Maluma’s new artistic proposal is the album cover, which consists of an image of Colombian artist Federico Uribe, known for using recycled materials to create 3D paintings and sculptures.
In fact, Maluma celebrated his holiday in a temporary “pop-up” exhibition of Uribe’s work, which includes the artist’s image.
His painting, like other works by Uribe, has been put up for auction and “makes us reflect on what we do to the planet,” he said. Part of the sales of the works will be donated to the Colombian organizations Fundación Amigos del Mar, Jardín Botánico de Cartagena and Stand Up Providencia.
