Cuba issues a decree on violations of veterinary medicine

Cuba issued a decree on violations of veterinary medicine on Friday, which takes into account animal health offenses, the measures to be imposed on infringers and the authority empowered to impose them, as well as the modalities for resolving non-compliances.

The Official Gazette of the Republic published Decree 20 Contraventions of veterinary medicine, initialed by Prime Minister Manuel Marrero and Gustavo Rodríguez Rollero, head of the Ministry of Agriculture. It applies to national or foreign natural and legal persons and is mandatory throughout the country,

Fines for criminals range from 500 to 3,500 pesos or their equivalent in convertible pesos, depending on the severity of the facts in which they occur.

The decree also provides for the confiscation of animals and products, the storage, deactivation or reshipment and withdrawal of the veterinary license. Those who cause situations of stress, physical damage or ill-treatment that threaten the health and welfare of animals of any species, category or purpose, the appropriate measures will be applied.

In addition, the irregularities include everything related to biosecurity the absence of an obsolete veterinary license or its obsolete status, as well as offenses related to the import or export of animals, products and raw materials of that origin.

The severity of the measures will also fall on those who practice veterinary medicine without the usual registration in the administrative control of doctors in veterinary medicine and veterinary and zootechnical medicine.
