Eleven soldiers at Texas’ Fort Bliss military base are under medical observation after ingesting an unknown substance while performing a field training exercise.
According to the basic authorities, the soldiers became ill after consuming a substance acquired outside the authorized food distribution channels. The injured personnel include a technical officer, two non-commissioned officers and eight enlisted members.
The 11 soldiers involved in the incident remain under medical care at William Beaumont Army Medical Center since their arrival in the early afternoon of Thursday, January 28.
Two soldiers remain in critical condition.
Fort Bliss leaders remain in constant contact with the families and members of the sick soldiers’ unit and will take care of them.
“We are taking immediate action to treat everyone involved with the best medical care available. Our leaders are engaged at all levels to provide guidance, information and care to their teammates. Our commitment to our soldiers and families remains our number one priority as we work to understand what happened on January 28, “said Major General Sean C. Bernabe, the commander of the 1st Armored Division and Fort Bliss mission.
Fort Bliss officials, in cooperation with law enforcement, are continuing to investigate the incident.
