The brown bear follows the skier on the slope in Romania: VIDEO

PREDEAL, Romania – A Romanian skier had a lucky escape when he was chased by a brown bear on the slopes this week, with spectators saying that the skier’s quick thinking probably saved his life.

The video of the dramatic moment in the mountain resort Predeal in Romania, where there have been multiple bear sightings in recent years, was captured by shocked eyewitnesses.

During the chase, the spectators tried to distract the bear by whistling and screaming, but the skier was saved by his own ingenious maneuver.

“He made a pretty cool move, which is really safe when you want to get away from the bear,” Angel Somicu, who saw the bear an hour earlier with another skier, Daniel Jenei, told ABC News. “He took off his bag and, well, the bear was dragged to the bag.”

Another dramatic video filmed on the spot from a ski lift shows the bear watching the skier with speed before finally shaking his tail.

The pursuit of the bears caused panic among the skiers on the mountain, after the authorities informed them about the dramatic observation.

“The ski patrol stopped us and told us there was a bear at the base of the slope,” Jena said. “Everyone who was there threw their skis down and ran down the slope.”

After the bear was scared, authorities have now promised to investigate the situation and move the bear to a safer area.

Local police told ABC News that they had received three emergency calls regarding the fact that the bear had been seen at various points in the day.

“The skier did the right thing,” Ion Zaharia, a police spokesman in Brasov, Romania, told ABC News. “The bear was distracted by the things in his backpack. We’re thinking of moving the bear, which should hibernate now, anyway, but in recent years, we have more bears facing skiers in the winter.”
