Kelly Dodd is no stranger to controversy, but she hates being a “victim” of the so-called “culture of annulment.”
“Kelly, it was so disappointing to see you calling protesters robbers,” said a question from fans broadcast by Andy Cohen at the “Real Housewives in Orange County” meeting on Wednesday night. “As a Mexican-American, don’t you think you have a responsibility to stand by your marginalized colleagues?”
“Listen, I have nothing to do with the protests … Peaceful protests – I mean that,” Dodd, 45, said. “But that was on another level that I saw in New York. It was prey. Buildings have been set on fire and I don’t think that’s the way to protest. ”
Cohen, 52, went on to reveal Dodd’s next blunder on social media in 2020: Posting a photo of her bridal shower, wearing a hat that read “Wife Drunk Matters.” Asked if she understood why people are upset about this, Dodd said the hat was two years old and a gift.
“There were a lot of drunken wives at the party,” said Elizabeth Lyn Vargas, with Dodd explaining that she was not meant to mock the Black Lives Matter movement.
Dodd saw how the hat could have offended people after Braunwyn Windham-Burke pushed it before going on the offensive.
“I was not malicious and I am attacked by this culture of annulment, which is a bunch of haters who would never have a voice and here they meet and [coming] after me, ”she said.
“It simply came to our notice then. People were oppressed, “said Windham-Burke, 43.
“Four of my best friends are African Americans and they weren’t upset,” Dodd shouted, adding, “White people did it!”
Dodd also reaffirmed that he is black, but does not identify as a black person.
At the beginning of the episode, Dodd’s 28-person wedding to Fox News reporter Rick Leventhal became a similar point of contention because he told Cohen he had a wedding because of the pandemic.
“I’m glad I did it because no one got sick and it was beautiful,” she said.
Cohen then read a fan question that asked women if they thought Dodd’s wedding was irresponsible.
“It wasn’t necessarily irresponsible if everyone was tested,” Vargas said.
“But is it okay to protest?” Dodd intervened. “Can everyone have a protest and be among a billion people? But can’t I have a holiday wedding? ”
It is unclear whether the drama of Windham-Burke and Dodd will play in the next season of “RHOC”, as Dodd said he will give up the show if the former will make her return.
