Video: Pedro Burns struggles with a solar eclipse in “Ride into Darkness”

Press release: Red Bull

In just three minutes and during a total solar eclipse, Pedro Burns descended from Villarrica volcano at full speed to perform a backflip at exactly the time when the sun was covered by the moon.

On December 14, the career of Chilean enduro athlete Pedro Burns set a new milestone by running against an Eclipse and achieved an incredible backflip at a time when the sky in southern Chile was completely dark.

The astronomical phenomenon was accompanied by a heavy rain, which gave an additional challenge to this crazy race against time, played by the triple Chilean national Enduro champion and top 20 at the last Enduro World Series.

Burns’ challenge was recorded in a 3-minute action clip in which you can experience the frantic race along a narrow path from the volcano that passes through a dense native forest to reach a ramp at the height of the eclipse. which he performed a flip back.

The video available on redbull.com is accompanied by a behind-the-scenes production in which Burns details the main difficulty he had in achieving this challenge: the rain.

In addition to the weather conditions, Pedro Burns’ helmet was another novelty in this project. As the action was about to take place in the dark. The Spanish company OneTech Media has developed a lighting technique that mixes electroluminescent paint and a small battery in the headset. This provided the light that Burns needed to shine in the middle of a total eclipse.

After completing the challenge, Burns commented on the difficulties of backfliping in the middle of the dark:

great quotes From the beginning I wanted to make a leap, but I never imagined that we would have so many complications. We arrived and it was raining, the floor did not allow us to reach the required speed and we thought we would not reach it.

Finally, together with the team, we decided to try it and started digging and removing the first layer of soil and we succeeded. It really is something that gives an incredible closing to my year.
