Thousands of Dominicans, regardless of the increase in infections caused by Covid-19 in recent weeks, enjoyed yesterday in neighborhoods and beach holidays for the birth of the patrician Juan Pablo Duarte, in addition to being involved in daily activities.
The hot sun and the crystal clear water of Boca Chica beach witnessed this month how the citizens went out as a family to take a “bath”, causing the risks and possibilities of contracting the new coronavirus.
Hey, a little fish? “Cheap parking” and “I have tables even with air”. These were some of the phrases that, added to the songs that were sung simultaneously, greeted the spa.
It was not necessary to go too far to observe the large number of bathers, because the countless umbrellas of the beach anticipated the panorama that would be observed in the water and sand.
At the edge of the beach, precisely, was Angy Cabrera, who said that “it was right to leave the house”, while secretly watching her son’s every move.
Cabrera stressed that “this (referring to the pandemic) will not happen and they have been imprisoned for a long time”, while explaining that he was trying to stay with his family and away from other people so as not to become infected.
While José Miguel Luna, who traveled from San Pedro de Macorís with some cousins and friends, said that “whoever says he follows any protocol, lies”.
“They tell us that the Dominicans are leaving here and leaving,” Luna added.
After a tour of the shores of the famous spa, a Listín Diario team managed to verify that between the hot sun and the crystal clear water of the beach, sanitary and preventive measures were omitted from the youngest to the oldest.
Regarding the flow of visitors, the consulted traders stated that sales have increased and that they agree with the relaxation of the cleaning case announced by the government health cabinet.
“Okay, things have improved,” said Carmen Chalas, who has been selling fish in the area for nearly 40 years.
For her part, Máxima Sandra said that, with the new freedoms, she will be able to work on the weekends, because, as she explained, “it was not worth opening up”.
Jams
Between a kilometer and a kilometer and a half, the roadblock near the Las Américas highway arrived this Monday, regarding the celebration for the birth of the hero Juan Pablo Duarte.
After crossing the toll station, on the way to Boca Chica beach and other resorts, the vehicle traffic remained slow, but moving.
In the neighborhoods
The pandemic and the measures taken by the government to prevent its advance, both restrictive for traffic and congestion, as well as sanitation, did not prevent people from different districts of the capital to enjoy a holiday yesterday at the birth of the patrician Juan Pablo Duarte, nor the massive participation at the markets.
However, the idea was that in these social gatherings and commercial activities, not all people used a mask correctly or did not have it, as well as a lack of respect for social distance.
During a tour by a team from Listín Diario in the neighborhoods of Villa Juana, Villa Consuelo, San Carlos and Ensanche la Fe, it was observed how people enjoyed their day off.
ENVIRONMENT
Everyday life.
In San Carlos, people shared on the sidewalks, in some food and food stalls, and as time went on, grocery stores were the main business. The same situation was reflected in Ensanche la Fe, except that the latter showed a lower picture of the flow of residents.
Job.
At Villa Consuelo and Villa Juana there was a greater flow of people carrying out various activities. Some preferred to use the day off for social gatherings, and others kept their work schedule.
