The mayor of San Juan, Miguel Romero, reopened today, Sunday, the facilities of the Central Park of the capital, the first of several recreational areas that will open in the coming weeks.
“(Opening) is a partial question, first of all, because there are some disciplines – at the level of the whole island – that we are not prepared to do. open jogging track and the track “Romero said during a press conference.
These two seats will be open to the public starting tomorrow, Monday, from 6:00 to 18:00, the mayor said.
“The idea is to get back to normal,” Romero said.
“It was definitely imperative for me to reopen. People need outdoor recreation. This is healthier than being in a mall, “he added.
The San Juan swimming pool and tennis courts of the sports complex will continue to be closed, added the mayor, who announced that El Escambrón, the Rebekah Colberg sports center and Luis Muñoz Marín Park will also be reopened.
He stressed that the reopening of the runway and the walking area requires the maintenance of the surrounding green areas, bathrooms and include indicators with their own requirements or that adapt to the COVID-19 pandemic.
However, Romero said the park does not yet have energy services. He added that the issue would be addressed “slowly”. Therefore, the park will be used only during the day.
Central Park has been closed since the coronavirus emergency was declared almost a year ago.
Under the guidance of former mayor Carmen Yulín Cruz, the municipal administration kept it closed for months, noting that the recreational and sports area suffered serious damage to infrastructure and electricity.
Cruz posted a message stating that recent actions in the capital have tested his previous expressions. She was referring to the fact that the central government did not help her in managing the Capital.
“Things are being done, which is important,” Romero said when asked about Cruz’s expressions.
During the press conference, Romero was accompanied by several track users who were very pleased with the reopening.
