The PS5 version accounted for almost half of sales
Hitman 3 ranked 1st in the UK charts, with launch sales up 17% from its predecessor.
Developed and owned by IO Interactive, the box office release of Hitman 3 was managed by Square Enix, the company that previously owned the franchise before letting it go. The latest game, Hitman 2 from 2018, was released by Warner Bros.
The PS5 version of the game was by far the dominant edition, accounting for 49% of sales. The Xbox version accounted for 27%, while the PS4 version accounted for 25%. Of course, this is just physical games, most of the sales of Hitman 3 will take place in the digital download space.
Hitman’s debut in the charts means that Animal Crossing: New Horizons drops to number 2, although only 800 games separate the two titles. Animal Crossing sales fell 8% week-on-week.
Some new PS5 consoles were released last week, which had a positive impact on several titles. Spider-Man: Miles Morales increased by 161%, jumping from No. 12 to No. 5, Demon’s Souls re-enters the No. 27 top with a 291% increase in sales and there were sales increases for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War (up 56% and led by the PlayStation version) and Assassin’s Creed Valhalla (up 7%, but up the PS5 version up 174%). In total, sales of PS5 games increased by 324% weekly.
Another great lift was the Ring Fit Adventure. The Nintendo Switch fitness game has risen frequently in the pandemic charts whenever new stocks come on the market. The game rises to number 7, with a 47% increase in sales.
