A Washington State Police patrol runs over someone

At least one person was injured in a city in the state on Saturday night Washington, after a police patrol attacked a group of pedestrians attending a city race, according to the Tacoma News-Tribune.

The incident took place shortly before 7 p.m. When a hundred people looked at several cars spinning on a street in downtown Tacoma, police told the newspaper.

A police car arrived on the scene and burst into the crowd as people tried to block the vehicle, a witness said.

Videos shared on social media showed the police car passing someone or something. Another video of the scene shared on Twitter appeared to show the vehicle hitting a person on the ground.

Police got a tip about a street race shortly before 7 p.m., Tacoma police spokeswoman Wendy Haddow told the News-Tribune.

The officer used his horn to warn the crowd, the spokeswoman said. Then people started banging on the windows.

That caused the officer to leave the scene for his own safety, he added. One person was injured in the collision and was taken to a hospital.

The agent involved will be given administrative leave, said city manager Elizabeth Pauli. The Pierce County police investigation team will investigate the matter, Pauli said.
