The left is taking to the streets in Brazil to demand the removal of Bolsonaro

Several demonstrations in Brazil’s main cities on Saturday called for the launch of an indictment against President Jair Bolsonaro, a mobilization promoted by left-wing parties and organizations.

In Brazil, the demonstration convened mainly by the Workers’ Party and the Communist Party of Brazil covered an area of ten kilometers to the Esplanade of Ministries, according to the Brazilian newspaper “Folha de Sao Paulo”.

PT President Gleisi Hoffmann took part in the protest in Brasilia and argued in his speech that an indictment against Bolsonaro would not lead to political instability. “Instability is already with this serious crisis,” he argued.

There were also protests against Bolsonaro in Rio de Janeiro or Recife, while in Sao Paulo the demonstration began near the headquarters of the State Legislative Assembly and covered the distance between it and the city center.

In Belo Horizonte, the meeting took place in front of the Mineirão Stadium, and in Salvador there was a procession of vehicles that gathered around 500 cars.

Other opposition parties, but of a more conservative tone, such as the Free Brazil Movement (MBL) or Ven Para la Calle, have convened their supporters for Sunday.

According to a survey published this Saturday by the “Folha de Sao Paulo”, 40% of the population consider that the management of the epidemic by Bolsonaro is bad or terrible, compared to 32% of the previous survey conducted in December.

However, 53% of Brazilians do not believe that the Chamber of Deputies should open a process to eliminate responsibility against the president.
