Hospitalizations remain high as Utah reports 11 more deaths due to COVID-19 on Saturday

More than 15,000 people received the vaccine on Saturday.

The number of daily infections and deaths with COVID-19 decreased on Saturday, as did hospitalizations, although the number of people in the intensive care unit with the disease increased slightly.

Vaccinations reported in previous / total day vaccinations 15.148 / 222.275.

Of those vaccinated, 27,542 received both doses. Although the initial response to vaccination in Utah focused on health care workers and the elderly, 70 nursing homes and care centers continue to have active outbreaks with infected residents, according to the Utah Department of Health. Nineteen of these outbreaks have more than 20 residents with COVID-19.

Cases reported the other day • 1,771, which is 878 less than on Friday.

Deaths reported last day • 11, although the Utah Department of Health reported that two of the deaths occurred before December 31, 2020.

Four of the deaths were Salt Lake County residents: two men over the age of 85, a woman between the ages of 65-84 and a man between the ages of 45-64.

Davis County recorded two deaths, both men, one between 45-64 and one between 65-84.

Utah County also had two deaths, a man and a woman over the age of 85.

Duchesne County had only one death, a woman between 45-64, as well as Sanpete County, a man between 65-84, and Washington County, a man between 65-84.

Hospitalizations reported last day • 481. It fell seven on Friday. Of those currently hospitalized, 196 are in intensive care units – four more than on Friday.

Tests reported the other day • 10,001.

Percentage of positive tests • 17.7%. This is lower than the seven-day average of 18.9%.

Totals so far • 334,889 cases; 1,582 deaths; 12,948 hospitalizations; 1,958,154 tests.
