BioWare art director Matt Rhodes spent the holidays uploading some interesting conceptual art from Revolver, a project that has never seen the light of day.

Revolver was designed first as a result of 2005 The Jade Empire which went through several iterations. The developers have finally given up the old Chinese framework for science and moved from a role-playing game in martial arts to something more open before the game was quietly canceled around 2009. Fortunately, there are still a lot of early conceptual arts for the project.

“Between 2005 and 2008 I worked at Project Revolver, ”Rhodes, whose posts were first brought to our attention by Eurogamer, writes on Instagram. “It simply came to our notice then The Jade Empire, Revolver it has evolved and changed course many times during its development. It was recently revealed in more detail in the book Bioware: Stories and secrets from the 25 years of game development. To celebrate, I researched the archives and blew 15 years of dust from some of my favorite pieces from that project. ”

Since then, BioWare has focused almost entirely on it Mass effect and it was the dragons franchises (not to mention Hymn), but I like to imagine a world in which The Jade Empire was successful enough to provide a third pillar of confidence in its portfolio.

Be sure to check out Rhodes Instagram and ArtStation pages for more. The uploads to the first ones are particularly interesting, because the subtitles include a few small pieces of tradition.
