José Juan Barea signs to play in the Spanish league with the team Movistar Estudiantes

Madrid.- The Movistar Estudiantes team, a team from the Spanish basketball league, reached an agreement with the Puerto Rican base José Juan “JJ” Barea to join this team until the end of the season.

“JJ Barea will arrive in Madrid this week to join the Movistar Estudiantes training. You will thus fulfill a small personal goal that already indicated in the Spanish press a decade ago: playing in the country of their ancestors, originally from Ribota de Sajambre (León) ”, the team’s press release indicates.

The 36-year-old Barea is an institution in the NBA, and especially in the Dallas Mavericks: he was essential in his only championship ring, the one made in 2011 with the German Dirk Nowitzki against the Miami Heat, the club said in its statement .

In the 14 consecutive seasons in the NBA (between 2006 and 2020), 11 were in two stages with the Texas franchise, with which he signed a contract at the beginning of this season that was terminated in December.

In the other three seasons of his NBA he defended the Minnesota Timberwolves jersey (2011-2014), accumulating a total of 831 games in the regular season and 50 in the playoffs.

Barea is also one of the stars of the Puerto Rican team, with which she won gold medals at the 2011 Pan American Games, the Central American and Caribbean Games in 2006 and 2010; and silver from the 2007 Pan American Games.
