Earlier today, Activision has announced Pro skater Tony Hawk 1 + 2 developer Vicarious Visions had been absorbed by Blizzard to provide support for future projects. A few hours later, we now know that one of these projects is a Diablo II recover.
Conformable Bloomberg, Vicarious Visions supported team 3 of Blizzard –which is also responsible for the future Diablo IV“A few months in the development of a 2000 remake.” Diablo II, by far, the most popular role-playing game in the franchise.
The remake was originally under Team 1, the group responsible for very offended Warcraft III: Reforged, before the project was finally handed over to Team 3 sometime last year. Team 1 has since been disbanded, with some employees moving to new jobs at Blizzard and the rest being laid off.
Following the news this afternoon, social media was flooded with concern that Vicarious Visions had been removed from its own projects to disappear under massive Blizzard initiatives such as World of Warcraft and Overwatch. Although it remains to be seen whether this is the best use of the studio’s talents after its success with Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater, this is probably a better result than many had anticipated.
