NASHVILLE – The Tennessee Department of Health has updated the Tennessee COVID-19 Vaccination Plan, while the state continues to prioritize Tennessees with the highest risk of illness and death from COVID-19.
Protecting children and medically vulnerable adults
Tennessee added people living in households with medically fragile children to phase 1c of the state’s COVID-19 vaccination plan. Vaccination of parents, caregivers and other residents of the household will help protect these children, as no COVID-19 vaccine has been approved for use in children under 16 years of age. put them at increased risk of severe illness and death due to COVID-19. This group is still defined in the updated plan and appears earlier in the Tennessee plan than in the federal immunization recommendations.
Correctional officers and prisons in phase 1a1
Correctional officers and inmates in Tennessee have been added to Phase 1a1 of the Tennessee COVID-19 Vaccination Plan. These Tennessees work in settings and roles that require frequent direct public exposure through close contact indoors, putting them at high risk of contracting and spreading COVID-19.
Prioritize age-based risk
The age-based criteria run concurrently with the phases in the age categories starting with those aged 75 and over.
