MEXICO CITY.- The former beauty queen and host of the Hoy program, Marisol González, refused to comment on what was said by the director of Mexicana Universal Lupita Jones, who was accused of transphobia after talking to journalist Gustavo Adolfo Infante.
The presenter chose not to comment on whether or not to approve the participation of transgender women in beauty pageants; However, she clarified that she observes a great openness in inclusion issues.
“Now, in general, all the problems have been more open, right? Well, it is a subject that I would like to reserve, the truth, so that there are no misunderstandings “, the model of the press declared in an interview published by the YouTube channel of the journalist Eden Dorantes.
The representative of Mexico in Miss Universe 2003 made it clear that she no longer wants to get involved in the opinions of the director of the Mexican Universal pageant: “I would not like to talk further about what if it were Lupita, what if it were the pageants. I mean, yes, but not about Lupita, right? (…) If he said it, well, let me respect it, because I will not get involved ”.
One week ago, businesswoman and former Miss Universe Lupita Jones highlighted her opinion on the role of transgender women in the world of beauty during an interview on the television program Minute that changed my destiny, hosted by journalist Gustavo Adolfo Infante. After these statements, both characters were accused of transphobia.
“Gentlemen who become ladies. Men who have surgery, enter beauty pageants and have even won, right? Gustavo asked Lupita. “No, well, what happens is that there are competitions for them. There are transgender contests for transvestites “, the businesswoman replied.
“But they are not the same, they are not women,” the journalist continued. “She is a transgender woman. That’s why there are transgender contests. There is room for everyone, we have the right to free will. Through these operations, they manage to generate a body very similar to that of a woman, but she is a transgender woman. There is room for everyone, that’s what I think. It’s not about discrimination, everyone has their place. The characteristics are very different “, concluded Lupita.
Given these statements, Angela Ponce, who represented Spain in Miss Universe 2018 and became the first transgender woman to compete in the contest, responded to Lupita Jones in a text that she shared through social media.
“@LUPJONES, are you going to stop laughing? If you like to talk so much about this topic, read, inform yourself, find out, grow as a person and then if your face is not ashamed to see the “opinions” you have given, then you think about the property on which gives you the knowledge ”wrote Ponce.

During an interview on the program “When my destiny changed”, Lupita Jones revealed her most personal secrets.
“You work in a competition that is too big for you, because your values do not represent it at all. You give your public opinion, because when people call you public transphobic – that’s who you are – or on social networks, don’t cry or go out with absurd statements ”.
The aspiring Miss Universe from 2018 also shared a video in which she remembered that she was the only trans woman who participated in the beauty contest and, therefore, Lupita’s words were a lack of respect for her directly.
“He is disrespectful, as he addressed the entire trans community. Well, more specifically me, because the reference photos were mine and I know about, the only trans woman who went to Miss Universe was me. So, let me give you some advice and it is that if you do not move forward with the world, you will disappear “, said the young lady from her official Instagram account.
