Although I’ve already taken a clear look at it 2022 Subaru BRZ, Toyota played boring and revealed everything about its version of a lightweight sports coupe with rear-wheel drive, powered by boxer. Thursday, Thank you again at the Australian patent office, we can at least look at the front bumper.

IP Australia has released design documents submitted by Toyota for the front bumper of a car and is almost a dead sound for the future 86, which some insiders believe will be called GR86 in the future. The project was submitted on October 30, according to the government department, and officially registered on January 18.

The overall shape of the headlights – or their bottom, anyway – appear to be identical between the two models, so the primary changes are reserved for the grille and side pipes.

You have always been able to distinguish the first generation BRZ of 86 from a distance based on the orientation of the grid. If the car grinned and had a mustache, you were looking at a Subaru; if he was frowning or slightly anxious, it was Toyota. For what it’s worth, it looks like this mental shortcut will be applicable to GR86 as well – except for the “stache” part. No one will have a mustache this time.

BRZ is still the happy one.

Given that these cars were almost identical apart from their badges, I find it interesting how some enthusiasts will prefer to consider them exclusively as Subarus or Toyotas. By the time they both came out initially, my high school and college friends tended to fall into the BRZ camp, because many of them were WRX guys anyway. (Of course they were. I’m almost always that age.)

For me, Toyobaru’s “real” ancestor is the AE86 Corolla, so I see the car as Toyota first. In the end, it probably has more to do with the brand you like and the fact that Toyota initially chose to brand its Scion version probably didn’t help its credibility with certain sects of the automotive community. But that’s all in the past!

Although we don’t have numbers for the GR86, expect it to drop in line with BRZ’s 228 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque from the 2.4-liter tray that both cars will share. There may be small differences in weight – the first generation BRZ was a little heavier than the 86 – and the new BRZ gives £ 2,815 tips in the lightest finishes. Both cars will enjoy a lower center of gravity and a stiffer chassis, helping them to fly around as they are known.
