Quintana, 31, enters the tenth season of the Major League after previous internships with the White Sox and Cubs. Southpaw appeared in just four games (and only one start) in 2020 after tearing his left thumb at the start of summer camp, an injury that required surgery. Prior to that, Quintana was a quality starter for both Chicago clubs, making at least 30 starts each year between 2013-19.
Quintana, who will reunite with former Cubs manager Joe Maddon in Anaheim, holds an 83-77 career record with an ERA of 3.73.
The angels will hope that the addition of Quintana will bring a stabilizing force to a much-needed rotation. Adding quality beginners was a task that was on the off-season general manager Perry Minasian’s to-do list after the Halos rotation released the second worst ERA in the Majors in 2020. In ’19, Los Angeles saw only one pitcher (Trevor Cahill) throw even 100 innings.
