Jared Porter: New York Mets fires CEO after sending explicit photos to reporter

ESPN reported that Porter sent unsolicited, explicit text and photos “culminating in an image of an erect, naked penis” to the reporter as he worked for the Chicago Cubs as the team’s Director of Professional Research and Special Assistant.
Mets owner Steven Cohen posted on Twitter Tuesday morning: “I stopped Jared Porter this morning. In my initial press conference, I talked about the importance of integrity and said it honestly. There should be zero tolerance for this kind of behavior.”

According to ESPN, Porter allegedly sent 62 texts, including seven photos to the reporter, which were not answered.

ESPN said it obtained the messages and images in December 2017 and interviewed the reporter, but chose not to report the allegations when the woman said her career would be affected if the story was published.

CNN is trying to reach Porter for comments.

Mets President Sandy Alderson released the following statement on Tuesday. “The New York Mets fired General Manager Jared Porter immediately. Jared’s actions, reflected in last night’s events, failed to meet Mets standards for professionalism and personal conduct.”

ESPN contacted Porter on Monday night and he allegedly admitted to sending messages to the woman. ESPN reports that he initially said he did not send any pictures with him, but when the network confronted him about how text messages show he sent pictures, Porter reportedly told ESPN: “The most explicit are not mine. These are kind of like joke pictures. ”

The unidentified woman told ESPN: “My number one motivation is that I want to prevent this from happening to someone else,” she said through an interpreter. “Obviously, he is in a much higher position of power. I want to prevent this from happening again. The other thing is that I never got the idea that he is really sorry.”

According to ESPN, Porter apologized to the woman in 2016 through the text, after telling her that her messages were “extremely inappropriate, very offensive and out of line.”
