GENEVA (AP) – Organizers of the World Economic Forum expect leaders, including Chinese President Xi Jinping, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, to hold a virtual meeting next week – after The COVID-19 pandemic dropped plans for the annual in-person event in Davos, Switzerland.
The forum expects to hold its own annual meeting in May in Singapore.
The founder of the forum, Klaus Schwab, said that the purpose of the “Davos Agenda” virtual meeting, starting January 25, is to restore trust and involve all stakeholders in business, government, civil society and not only to help build “More peaceful and prosperous post-crown eras. ”
The event takes place throughout the week with daily topics on topics such as economic systems, responsible growth, cooperation and technology capitalization in the 4th Industrial Revolution – a common theme at the events in Davos.
Borge Brende, chairman of the forum, said Xi and Modi will be joined by Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga and South Korean President Moon Jae-in for the event, and these leaders will consider “the role that Asia will play in recovery”.
Among those expected are Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, French President Emmanuel Macron and Colombian President Ivan Duque.
The annual Davos event usually draws thousands of elites to the alpine snows to discuss ways to build a better future.
