Authorities will summon today the alleged organizer of the activity that gathered hundreds of people last Saturday night, in the parking lot of the Oulets de Montehiedra shopping center, due to the possible violation of the executive order against COVID-19.

This was reported this afternoon by the appointed health secretary, Carlos Mellado, at a press conference in La Fortaleza.

“He has identified and I understand that he will quote today,” Mellado said.

Yesterday, in an interview with The new day, the director of the Investigation Bureau of the Department of Health, Jesús Hernández, indicated that through interviews they managed to establish the identity of the alleged organizer.

But as corroboration was lacking to confirm it, he indicated that he could not reveal his identity publicly.

“When we arrived, they started to disperse and leave the area. But with the help of the mall, we set up checkpoints to conduct car-to-car interviews, one by one, until we were able to find information about the possible organizer of the event. We are in the process of establishing communication with that person, “Hernández said yesterday.

He commented that there were “people who meet in shopping malls and in different parts of the island to share information about vehicles. Sometimes I race on the road, but we couldn’t establish it in this case. “

“The worrying thing is that there were hundreds of people there, with hundreds of cars. For us it is an extreme concern, because there was no distancing, mutual sharing, driving different vehicles without any prevention. We want to save lives here, “he said.

For his part, Mellado said today that event organizers can request exemptions that are approved if they meet a number of requirements.

“It must be remembered that the activities can be carried out as long as they request a waiver from the Ministry of Interior and respect the specific and punctual protocol for the number of people, masks and measures,” Mellado said.

“This activity (Saturday) did not have any dispensation. They sent a message and the police arrived in less than ten minutes, and the organizer of the event could be found. It will be prosecuted today by the Department of Health, in collaboration with the Police, the summons of the person and any crimes will be sent to the Department of Justice, “he said.
