fitbit: Read Fitbit CEO James Park’s open letter to users – Latest news

Google has completed its $ 2.1 billion acquisition of major portable Fitbit products. The company’s CEO, James Park, welcomed the news and said the deal would help Fitbit “innovate faster, offer more options and make even better products.” He also wrote an open letter to Fitbit users, assuring them that their data would be protected. Park reiterated Fitbit’s promise of privacy and said it would continue to be paramount to the company. He added that Fitbit devices will continue to work with both Google Android and Apple iOS platforms. Here is the Fitbit CEO letter to users:

I’m writing to let you know today that Fitbit is now officially part of Google. It’s an incredibly exciting time for us, as a company, and for our Fitbit user community around the world.

When Eric and I founded Fitbit 13 years ago, we did it with a simple but bold idea: to make everyone in the world healthier. Since delivering the original Fitbit tracker in 2009 and now selling over 120 million devices in over 100 countries, this mission has never faltered. Instead, millions of you have joined this mission and made Fitbit a life-changing move. In some cases, we’ve heard from our users that we’ve even helped save lives. Together, we took 275 trillion steps and recorded over 15 billion hours of sleep.

This is just the beginning, because becoming part of the Google family means we can do even more to inspire and motivate you on your journey to better health. We will be able to innovate faster, offer more options and make even better products to support your health and wellness needs. On my own, we pushed the boundaries of what was possible from the wrist, pioneering step, heart rate, sleep, and stress tracking. With access to Google’s incredible resources, knowledge and global platform, the possibilities are truly limitless.

I have no doubt that this acquisition will create so many opportunities. But I also want you to know that many of the things you know and love about Fitbit will remain the same. We will remain dedicated to doing what is right, putting your health and well-being at the center of everything we do, and offering a personalized approach, with options that work on both Android and iOS.

The trust of our users will continue to be paramount and we will maintain strong protection of privacy and data security, giving you control over your data and remaining transparent about what we collect and why. Google will continue to protect the privacy of Fitbit users and has made a number of binding commitments with global regulators, confirming that the health and well-being data of Fitbit users will not be used for Google ads and that this data will be kept separate from other Google advertising data. Google has also stated that it will continue to allow Fitbit users to connect to third-party services. This means you’ll still be able to connect your favorite health and wellness apps to your Fitbit account. These and other Google commitments reinforce why Google is an ideal partner for Fitbit, which will continue to put our users first and continue to help us make the world a healthier place.

Thank you for letting us be a part of your life and your journey to health.

Sincerely,

James Park

CEO, president and co-founder
