Here is today’s COVID-19 update from the County Agency for Health and Human Services, with data until January 14, 2021.
ICU capacity and order of stay at home:
- The current availability of the intensive care unit (ICU) bed for the Southern California region is 0.0% and will be updated daily by the state.
- The Regional Stay Home Order is in force and prohibits meetings of any size with people from other households and adds restrictions for several sectors.
- The order will last until the ICU availability of the region meets or exceeds 15%.
Community outbreaks:
- Seven new outbreaks were confirmed on 14 January: two in business settings, two in healthcare settings, one in a hotel / resort / spa, one in a faith-based setting and one in a commercial setting.
- In the last seven days (January 8 to January 14), 44 community outbreaks have been confirmed.
- The number of Community outbreaks remains above the trigger of seven or more in seven days.
- A community outbreak is defined as three or more cases of COVID-19 in a setting and in people from different households in the last 14 days.
Testing:
- 30,851 tests were reported to the county on January 14, and the percentage of new positive cases was 9%.
- The average continuous 14-day percentage of positive cases is 13.2%. The target is less than 8.0%.
- The daily average of 7 days of tests is 27,417.
- People at higher risk of COVID-19 who are with or without symptoms should be tested. People with any symptoms should be tested. Nurses and essential workers should also receive a test, as well as people who have had close contact with a positive case or live in communities that are severely affected. Those who have recently returned from travel or who have attended holiday meetings are also urged to be tested.
Cases:
- 2,695 cases were reported to the county on January 14. The total for the region is now 206,870.
- 7,146 or 3.5% of all cases required hospitalization.
- 1,288 or 0.6% of all cases and 18% of hospitalized cases had to be admitted to an intensive care unit.
Deaths:
- 32 new COVID-19 deaths were reported to the county on January 14. The total for the region is now 2,037.
- 16 men and 16 women died between January 5 and January 14.
- Of the 32 new deaths reported, 16 people who died were 80 or older, seven were 70, four were 60, one was 50, three were 40 and one he was 40 years old.
- 30 had underlying medical conditions, one had no and one had a pending medical history.
