Apple has said it will work on an external monitor at lower prices to make the Thunderbolt display a success

Apple began early development of an external monitor at lower prices, which would have sold alongside the high-end XDR Pro Display, according to BloombergMark Gurman. The display would be a consumer-oriented successor to Apple’s previous Thunderbolt Display, introduced in 2011 for $ 999 and discontinued in 2016.

The report claims that the new Apple screen with lower prices will have a lower brightness and contrast ratio compared to the Pro Display XDR, which is priced at $ 4,999 before taking into account an optional stand of $ 999:

As part of renewed efforts for the Mac desktop, Apple began early development of an external monitor at lower prices to be sold alongside the Pro Display XDR. Apple’s current monitor debuted in 2019 and costs $ 5,000 – before taking into account the $ 1,000 stand.

The cheaper monitor would have a more consumer-oriented screen than for professional use and would not have the brightness and contrast ratio of the top offer. Apple last launched a quality consumer monitor called the Thunderbolt Display in 2011 for $ 999, but discontinued it in 2016.

There is no word on the size, resolution or other specifications of the Apple display at lower prices, but the Pro Display XDR is equipped with a 32-inch 6K screen, while the Thunderbolt screen had a 27-inch panel with QHD resolution of 2560×1440. The display would probably have much thinner front frames than the Thunderbolt display.
