IO Interactive presented how the levels and progress will be transferred Hitman 3 from previous games into a tricky frequently asked question on its site today and it’s a mess for PC gamers, apparently thanks to the Epic Games Store and Steam, which don’t play nicely with each other.
On the console, things are pretty simple. Players who already own Hitman 1 and 2 on PS4 or Xbox One will be able to stream their progress to the PS4 and Xbox One versions Hitman 3 respectively, as well as capitalize on both sets of levels as DLC in the new game. But on the PC things are not so simple.
“We did our best to make this process easy and user-friendly,” IO Interactive said wrote today in his pre-launch post. “However, due to various circumstances beyond our control, we want to acknowledge that the process is different from our original plans for PC gamers.”
Everyone buys Hitman 3 in the first 10 days after launch on the Epic Games store, where it is currently exclusively timed, will automatically receive access to Hitman 1, which is also available to purchase separately on the Epic Games Store as DLC. However, Hitman 2, which is not currently sold on the Epic Game Store, will need to be re-purchased as DLC for PC gamers to access these levels, even if they already have the game on Steam.
G / O Media may receive a commission
“As Hitman 2 is not available on EGS, we set an 80% discount for this access permit in the first 14 days after Hitman 3 launch “, wrote IO Interactive. “It simply came to our notice then Hitman 2 expansion access. “In other words, the studio will provide PC gamers who need to buy again Hitman 2 a massive discount to unlock the content Hitman 3 for the first two weeks, although it is not clear exactly how much they will have to pay.
As you might expect, for a long time Hitman players on the subreddit of the game they are upset, in part because IO Interactive itself previously stated that existing owners will be able to play all of their favorite Hitman levels in one place at no extra cost.
“[W]We are pleased to confirm that PC players will be able to report their current progress and unlock from Hitman 2 on Steam in Hitman 3 on Epic Games Store ”, the studio wrote August last year. “It will also be possible for PC players to import locations from the previous two games into Hitman 3 on the Epic Game Store. We want to make it a hassle-free process for PC gamers Hitman 3 on another computer platform and continue to enjoy the benefits of our world of assassination. ”
Something has obviously changed in the months since then, although it is not clear what. Epic and IO Interactive did not immediately respond to a request for comment. As Hitman 3 will be exclusively an Epic Games Store for 12 months, an option that players have is to simply wait until it finally arrives on Steam. The other is the simple reduction of the low cost of purchase Hitman 2 again. Both types of sucks.
