The letter indicates that some signers “witnessed a large number of outside groups in the complex (of the Capitol) on Jan. 5,” the day before the violent attack on legislative headquarters that killed a Capitol police officer. and four protesters, one of them, a woman, because of a gunshot wound.
“What I saw were groups of people who did not need to be there, walking through the offices of Congress (…) There were people walking down the halls who were clearly dressed as people taking part in the demonstration (in favor of Trump), ” Democratic Congressman Abigail Spanberger, one of the signers of the letter, told CBS on Thursday.
Congressmen recall that as a result of the pandemic, public visits to the Capitol were canceled and that only members of Congress could have facilitated entry for that group of Trumpists.

Some congressmen assured that at least two Republican colleagues could have sponsored these visits.

The White House meeting, attended by outgoing President Donald Trump, was called to protest the joint session of Congress that would certify Democrat Joe Biden’s election victory that day and that Trump reiterated that it is the result of a major fraud.
In his speech, Trump called on the hundreds in attendance to march to the Capitol and “show strength.” Before the end of his speech, several groups began to attempt to break through the complex’s secure perimeter, and at around 2 p.m. they managed to enter by force, requiring the entire compound to be evacuated for several hours.
The presence of these groups in the Capitol is certainly suspicious
“Members of the group that attacked the Capitol appear to have had extraordinarily detailed knowledge of the Capitol’s blueprint. The presence of these groups (those from the day before) in the Capitol is undoubtedly suspicious, ”said Democratic congressmen.
According to the New Jersey congressman and also a signer of the document Mikie Sherrill, these groups, invited by unidentified Republican congressmen, went on a “reconnaissance mission” ahead of the January 6 attack.
Sherrill, a former Navy pilot, and other signatories, such as Spanberger, a former CIA agent, have military and intelligence backgrounds, so They claim to make the allegations with confidence that an investigation is needed.
