Delta Airlines is fighting passengers who have been seen harassing Republican Senators Mitt Romney and Lindsey Graham – as part of a wider range of restrictions.
On Thursday, Delta CEO Ed Bastian confirmed that passengers will be banned as part of increased security measures following last week’s violent protest at the US Chapter. In separate viral videos, Delta passengers were seen harassing both senators for speaking out against President Trump.
According to Reuters, the Delta’s decision was part of a wider security crackdown, which replaced 880 people on the “banned list” “because they were not wearing masks” or for “irregular election-related behavior.”
However, some passengers claim that they were kicked out of the Delta flight for the simple support of President Trump. According to reports, a man said he was forced to leave the plane because he said “Trump 2020”.
Meanwhile, Delta said it prohibits most passengers from checking firearms on flights to Washington DC. However, certain authorized personnel, such as law enforcement, will be allowed to check firearms.
“One thing we will do is not allow anyone to check a firearm at any of the Metro DC airports from this weekend until next week,” Bastian said. “Unless you are a law enforcement officer and you are authorized to wear one.”
The CEO of Delta also mentioned that the authorities are on high alert and stay in touch with local and federal intelligence agencies. Meanwhile, American Airlines is applying new restrictions in response to national unrest.
American Airlines has said it will not serve alcohol on flights to and from airports near DC until Jan. 21. This decision came because thousands of national guards remain stationed around the nation’s capital to support law enforcement. They intend to suppress any attempt at violence before the inauguration ceremony.
