British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said there were signs that the national coronavirus block was working, but warned that it was “early” and people had to follow the rules.

He did not rule out tightening restrictions, if necessary, but told the House of Commons that existing rules could begin to help reduce infections. England is in the second week of the third national blockade, with schools closed to most students and people ordered to stay home.

“We are now seeing the beginnings of signs that this is beginning to take effect in many parts of the country, but by no means everywhere,” Johnson said Wednesday. “It’s early and people need to keep discipline, enforce the rules and work together to launch the vaccination program.”

The prime minister said the rules were being kept under “constant review”, but said he wanted the country to be blocked as soon as possible. “No one can doubt the serious damage caused by blocking people’s mental health, jobs and livelihoods,” he said.

Johnson also confirmed that the government is working to provide coronavirus vaccines non-stop, telling lawmakers, “We will go 24/7 as soon as possible.”

This seemed to contradict his own official spokesman, who told reporters earlier this week that there was “no clamor” for overnight meetings. Mass vaccination centers are currently open from 8 am to 8 pm, 7 days a week.
